Outdoor Education

Roald Dahl: “The more risks you allow children to take, the better they learn to take care of themselves.”

Research shows that outdoor learning boosts confidence, social skills, communication, motivation, physical skills, knowledge and understanding, It has also found to increase children’s self-esteem, self-confidence, ability to work cooperatively and positive attitude to learning. At Glenthorne, we invest in this approach from the moment children enter our school, starting with Welly Wednesdays in Nursery, Muddy Mondays in Reception and Forest School in Year One and beyond. Furthermore, we believe that using the outdoors as a stimulus not only develops their learning skills but also develops subject knowledge and vocabulary.

“Teaching children about the natural world should be treated as one of the most important events in their lives.” Thomas Berry

“Let Nature be your teacher.” William Wordsworth
